Group Rules

These rules are provided as a guide to assist in the management of Churches, Centres and Groups.

These rules may be taken and adapted by any interested church, centre or group.

This web page provides two options that are recommended by the ASA for -

Section 1. ASA Associated Spiritualist Churches -

Section 2. ASA Associated Spiritual Centres and Spiritual Groups -        

 

 Please note that the ASA uses the definition for -

 Church, as a Centre that has an Ordained Minister/Marriage Celebrant to provide weddings, namings, funerals, etc.

 Centre,  as a Group that has a Service but does not have a Minister.

 Group,  as a Centre that has Meditation, Healing and Development meetings, etc but does not have a Service.

 

It is recommended by the ASA that the Name of a Church, Centre or Group should -

a) indicate that it is a Spiritualist Church, Spiritual Centre or Spiritual Group.

b) indicate the suburb in which it meets, and

c) if it belongs to an Affiliate Organisation must include the name of that Affiliated Organisation

 

A Minister of Religion works within the Religion of Spiritualism and has a church.

Where there is no Minister the work is Spiritual Work related to the religion of spiritualism.

A Group does not have a service but provides ancillary programs for inspired healing, development, etc

Section 1. ASA Associated Spiritualist Churches

 

The (your suburb) Spiritualist Church

 

CONSTITUTION

 1. NAME     -

    - The Name of the Church shall be the " The (your suburb) Spiritualist Church";

 2. LOCATION -

    - The Church shall be located in (your suburb), (your State);

 3. FAITH    -

    - The Church shall practice the Religion of Spiritualism,

            which includes as guidance for personal interpretation, but is not limited by

        The Seven Principles of Spiritualism, which are accepted as being -

       1) - The Fatherhood of God;

       2) - The Brotherhood of Man;

       3) - The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels;

       4) - The continuous existence of the human soul;

       5) - Personal Responsibility;

       6) - Compensation and retribution hereafter, for all the good and evil deeds done on earth;

       7) - Eternal Progress open to every soul.

 4. OBJECTIVES -

    - The Objectives of the Church shall be:-

    a) to provide for the development of the Spiritual, Psychic, Intellectual, Moral, and Social development of all;

    b) to hold regular and reverent services, orderly meetings, classes and social gatherings, as the need requires;

    c) it may acquire all the aids, books, facilities and assets it requires to achieve these aims;

    d) it may associate or affiliate with similar bodies as it determines, and

    e) to operate as a non-profit church.

 5. MEMBERSHIP -

      Membership is open to all adults for an annual fee of $2.00 or more as the Management Team determines.

 6. MANAGEMENT -

    - The Leader of the Church shall:-

    a) ensure that the Constitution and any subsequent By-Laws are upheld; and

    b) preside over all meetings of whatever format, or may nominate a member for such duty; and

    c) shall by annual appointment or election, secure the assistance of a Team of members to fulfil the role of :-

      1) - Leader;

      2) - Secretary;

      3) - Treasurer;

      4) - Other positions for functions deemed necessary by the Management Team, and

 7. SECRETARY  -

    - The Secretary shall:-

    a) maintain an accurate roll of all members, showing their names, addresses and contact details;

    b) record the minutes of all meetings, and

    c) attend to all correspondence.

 8. TREASURER -

    - The Treasurer shall :-

    a) maintain an accurate record of accounts; and

    b) ensure that the name of all Accounts used for banking purposes shall be in the name of the Church; and

    c) ensure that received monies shall be banked within the next seven days; and

    d) ensure that all approved expenses are paid as required; and

    e) prepare a Statement of accounts and membership for all Members at the closure of each financial year.

 9. MINISTER -

    - The Minister and any Assistant Ministers shall :-

    a) be appointed by the Management Team for a specified period or until such time as retired or resigned;

    b) shall be ordained in the fraternity administered by the ASA; and

    c) shall apply for a Religious Celebrants Authority under the Marriage Act; and

    d) provide religious functions, services and meetings, speakers and mediums as required; and in the absence of

        a Minister, the Leader shall ensure that these functions are carried out.

10. FINANCES -

    a) all income shall be by donation, fees or by any other approved method, as appropriate.

11. SURPLUS PROPERTY -

    - Should the Church wind-up or cease to operate as a Church for whatever reason the surplus property and

       assets after all expenses shall be vested and transferred to the ASA or another Spiritualist Church or Centre.

Section 2. ASA Associated Spiritual Centres and Groups -

 

THE (your suburb) SPIRITUAL  CENTRE (GROUP)

 

CONSTITUTION

 

 1. NAME -

    - The Name of the Centre shall be the "(your suburb) Spiritual Centre,;

 

 2. LOCATION -

    - The Centre shall be located in (your Suburb), (your State). 

 

 3. FAITH -

    - The Centre shall practice the Spiritual needs of the Religion of Spiritualism, which includes as guidance for

       personal interpretation, but is not limited by The Seven Principles of Spiritualism, which are accepted as being

       1) - The Fatherhood of God;

       2) - The Brotherhood of Man;

       3) - The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels;

       4) - The continuous existence of the human soul;

       5) - Personal Responsibility;

       6) - Compensation and retribution hereafter, for all the good and evil deeds done on earth;

       7) - Eternal Progress open to every soul.

    e) to operate as a non-profit group

    - The Leader of the Centre shall:-

    a) ensure that this Constitution and any subsequent By-Laws are upheld; and

    d) shall ensure that all members of the Management Team are paid only re-imbursement of approved expenses

     e) shall ensure that each member of the Management Team is a financial member of the Centre.

 

7. SECRETARY -

    - The Secretary shall:-

    a) maintain an accurate roll of all members, showing their names and addresses; and contact details,

    b) record the minutes of all meetings; and

    c) attend to all correspondence.

    - The Treasurer shall :-
